Letter: Vote On Tuesday

To the Editor:

There has been a lot of discussion about this municipal election, with 3 candidates running for 2 seats. It is imperative that as many voters as possible take advantage of their right and obligation to participate in this election, so that those who get elected represent as many residents as possible.

I do not like the municipal elections occurring in May; I would much prefer that they coincide with the general elections on election day. That would help ensure a higher percentage of voter turnout. But it is in May, and historically, a lighter turnout than we would like to see.

So rather than take this time to endorse a particular candidate, I will instead ask everyone reading this to vote, and help spread the word to your neighbors to get out and vote.

Each candidate has information about themselves on their respective websites. There is also video of a recent candidate forum that can easily be found in an internet search.

Please take the time to learn about each candidate’s positions and then go out on Tuesday and cast your vote for whoever you think will best represent what you hope will make Verona the town you want it to be.

In the words of sage Rabbi Hillel, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?”

Respectfully,
Jeff Shilling
Verona
