To the Editor:

I hadn’t really given much thought to writing an endorsement letter until I read the responses to the MyVeronaNJ candidates questions and viewed the Candidates Forum on April 26th. The one candidate that stood out in answers to the questions in both instances was Alex Roman. I met Alex Roman when we both started to attend council meetings prior to the municipal election in 2011. We both had fiscal concerns about the operation of the municipal government and some of the staffing and overtime policies that existed.

I later had the opportunity to work with him as a colleague from his election in 2015 to my departure in 2021. I was always impressed by his analytical ability and his business-like approach to finding solutions to difficult problems.

Those were challenging times that were consumed by Affordable Housing issues which pointed out severe deficiencies in our then Master Plan and zoning ordinances involving large development projects. Alex was also the council representative on the Planning Board and he was able to put the analytical skills I mentioned to good use.

He has used the knowledge and expertise in his last two years as Mayor to contribute greatly to the passage of the new Master Plan. We are now in the process of developing the new zoning ordinances and requirements that flow from the plan. His experience and knowledge will prove to be invaluable.

In conclusion, we don’t need an inexperienced, uninformed, bombastic individual. We need to re-elect Alex Roman.
