Mr. Andrew Gmitro passed away peacefully at his home in Verona on April 10, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Visiting will be held at the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona on Thursday, April 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Lakeside Ave., Verona on Friday at 10 a.m.

Born and raised in Bayonne he moved to Verona in 1965. He was a graduate of Bayonne High School with the Class of 1950 and attended the Manhattan School of Printing.

Mr. Gmitro proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He was a printer by trade, working for Baker Printing, Newark Printing and Harvard Press throughout his professional career. He was a member of the Printing Pressmens Union.

Mr. Gmitro was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna (nee Babyak) Gmitro and siblings, Ann Beebe, John Yura, Michael Gmitro and Peter Gmitro.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Irene (nee O’Reilly) Gmitro; his loving children, Susan Bachmann (Scott), Andrew Gmitro (Tina), Dorene Petronaci (Nicholas) and Amy Polston (Phil); and cherished grandchildren, Theo and Lilly Bachmann, Alyssa and Kyra Gmitro, Alannah, Nicholas and Ashling Petronaci and Isaac and Owen Bowmar. He is also survived by his brother, George Gmitro (Muriel).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the Verona Rescue Squad, 12 Church Street, Verona, NJ 07044 or the Verona Lion’s Club, P. O. Box 38, Verona, NJ 07044 in his memory. Condolences may be left at www.proutfuneralhome.com.
