Sidney and Kieran Quinn were playing basketball pretty far from home this past week.
The Verona teens were playing with the Irish National Under 16 boys and girls teams in the so-called Four Nations Tournament between Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. Their father is originally from Ireland and once played on the Irish National Team too.
It was the first international competitive experience for the Quinns. They practiced with their respective teams for several days before the tournament began, and both found their way into the starting lineups.
Sidney had a strong first game against Wales, scoring 10 points and gathering 10 rebounds.
Kieran’s team defeated England in overtime to win the tournament gold medal, with Kieran scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. It was the first time an Irish team had won the Four Nations Tournament since 1993.
