Giving Tuesday: Teacher Wishlists

For several years, MyVeronaNJ has published a list of community service organizations in Verona that readers can give to on Giving Tuesday. But we’ve learned that there are teachers in town with wishlists on Amazon that readers might also want to put on their giving lists.

The items on these lists are one-offs, small things that wouldn’t add up to a grant request for the Verona Foundation for Educational Excellence (VFEE)–which residents can give to for Giving Tuesday. Amy Heckel, a science teacher at H.B. Whitehorne Middle School, is looking for plush toy versions of microbes, while Bridget Sullivan, a 6th grade science teacher, needs glue sticks. Lots and lots of glue sticks. Julia Zambrano, HBW’s STEM teacher, is hoping for inspirational stickers and scooter boards.

“Little things really mean a lot to us teachers and our students,” says Jennifer Kleinknecht, the media specialist at H.B. Whitehorne Middle School, who is looking for origami paper and, you guessed it, books. “Prizes, exciting new materials, and even fun school supplies liven up our lessons and allow us to continue to be creative and innovative. We really appreciate the ‘extras.’ And of course, a library can never have too many books.”
