A new partnership between a Verona business and a Verona animal rescue group resulted in a special treat on the eve of Halloween.

Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch and Avenue Bistro held what they called a “Yappy Hour” on Sunday afternoon to bring pets who need new homes to the attention of the community. Susan Janett, who runs Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch, said the event produced a record seven adoptions. “We were absolutely thrilled,” she added.

So were Teresa Sanborn Loughrey and Aubie, apparently. Loughrey, a 1977 graduate of Verona High School, had come to the event to meet a senior chihuahua to possibly foster and then adopt it. Five-month-old Aubie had others plan. “He who completely chose her,” Janett said of Loughrey on Monday. “He went home with her on a trial last night and this morning is thoroughly in love.”

If you are interested in adopting, you can follow Avenue Bistro and Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch on Facebook to get the dates of future Yappy Hours.
