Dear Editor,
Seven years ago, I moved into Verona, New Jersey, and like many of its residents the strong school system was what attracted me to the town. I’m not going to lie; Verona Park was a major influence on our decision too. It was difficult for me to get to Board meetings when I first moved into town, but during the pandemic and after, I have made it a priority.
Attending board meetings has left me uninspired by Verona’s vision for children who are identified as disabled. I have long felt, as a special educator myself, that Verona has not created practices that support the growth and inclusion of children who are eligible for special education and related services. I have heard Denise speak specifically to this and have found that her expertise as a special education attorney and her commitment to making sure that EVERY student feels at home in Verona has reinforced my trust in her as a member of the Board.
Also important to me, is her dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion in our district. My family is part of the 5.9% (census 2021) of Latinos that make up the town population. I have heard Denise speak about diversity and inclusion and her compass has always been directed at integration and how Verona is part of the global community where the diversity of its constituents is growing. She is aware that the students are speaking about their concerns in the school buildings and she brings with her a knowledge, not only of educational law but for communicating and LISTENING to understand the needs of our district.
On November 8th, please join me in voting for Denise Verzella for school board member and let’s support her and our district in representing our students, its families and our community.

Hace siete años, me mudé a Verona, NJ, y como muchos de mis vecinos, el sistema escolar fue lo más importante para mi en esa decisión. No voy a mentir; el parque central, (Verona Park) también fue una gran influencia en nuestra decisión. Al inicio de mudarme, fue difícil para mí llegar a las reuniones de la Junta educativa, pero durante la pandemia y después, lo hice una prioridad.
Asistir a las reuniones de la junta me ha dejado sin inspiración por la visión de Verona para los niños identificados como discapacitados. Durante mucho tiempo he sentido, como educador especial, que Verona no ha creado prácticas que apoyen el crecimiento y la inclusión de niños que son elegibles para educación especial y servicios relacionados. Escuché a Denise hablar específicamente sobre esto y descubrí que su experiencia como abogada de educación especial y su dedicación de asegurarse de que CADA estudiante se sienta “como en casa” en Verona ha reforzado mi fe en Denise como candidata digna de nuestro voto para miembro de la junta educativa.
También es importante para mí su dedicación a la diversidad, la equidad y la inclusión en nuestro distrito. Mi familia es parte del 5.9% (censo 2021) de latinos que componen la población del pueblo. Escuché a Denise hablar sobre diversidad e inclusión y su brújula siempre ha estado dirigida a la integración y cómo Verona es parte de la comunidad global donde la diversidad de sus constituyentes está creciendo. Ella es consciente de que los estudiantes hablan sobre sus preocupaciones en los edificios escolares y trae consigo un conocimiento, no solo de la ley educativa, sino de comunicarse y ESCUCHAR para comprender las necesidades de nuestro distrito.
El 8 de noviembre, únase a mí votando por Denise Verzella para miembro de la junta escolar y apoyémosla a ella y a nuestro distrito en la representación de nuestros estudiantes, sus familias y nuestra comunidad.
