Girls Tennis Sweeps Golda Och

All of Verona High School’s girls tennis players won their matches against Gold Och Academy yesterday in the first clean sweep of the tennis season.

Margot DaCosta, who spent part of her summer at Rafael Nadal’s tennis camp in Mallorca, Spain, got her first win at 1st singles, defeating Giselle Weiss 6-0, 6-0. Second singles Shaina Kogan bested Lily Wise 6-2, 6-1 and 3rd singles Evelyn Kogan topped Maya Levine 6-0, 6-0.

The news was just as good in the doubles matches. The 1st doubles team of Emily Baumgard and Madison Lipinski defeated Hannah Shmerlis and Grace Saperstein 6-1, 6-0, while the 2nd doubles pair, Cassie Collucci and Alex Derderian, sent Amber Fulop and Sabrina Smokler down 6-0, 6-0.

The win improved Verona record to 3-2 on the season. Tennis hosts West Essex today, Thursday, September 15, for a 4 p.m. match.
