The Valerie Fund, like many area fundraising groups, has been holding its annual walk in Verona Park for many years, often with Verona residents participating. This year, however, the Township of Verona has created a Verona walk team because two Verona children are being treated for cancer at Valerie Fund Centers.
The walk will be held on Saturday, September 17, and there is a 5K race that starts at 8:30 a.m. in addition to the walk, which begins at 10 a.m. There is a also a special race for kids beginning at 9 a.m.
The Valerie Fund was created by Ed and Sue Goldstein in memory of their daughter, Valerie, who died from cancer at age 9. Their goal was to help pediatric cancer patients to be treated close to their home in New Jersey and not have to make a longer trip into New York City.
The Verona town team is looking to raise just $1,000 and, as of this morning, it was only a few dollars short of that goal. You can register for the Walk/Run through the team page.
