The Verona Recreation Department will open registration for the summer swim team, Verona Waves, and its companion Mini-Waves program on Friday, May 20, at 5 p.m. Mini-Waves is an introduction to competitive swimming for children who already know the basics of swimming freestyle and have the endurance to swim laps. The Mini-Waves program is capped at 60 swimmers.

Children who have not been on the travel team in the past need to attend a swim evaluation on Sunday, June 5 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Verona Pool. Participants in last summer’s swim clinic will also need to be re-evaluated. Attendance at the evaluation does not guarantee a place in either swim program; swimmers will be notified via email no later than the evening of Monday, June 6.

The Mini-Waves will practice from 8:15 to 9 a.m. three days a week beginning Monday, June 27. Waves travel team practices will be split into two groups (10 and under, and 11 and over), and there will be both evening and early morning sessions beginning Tuesday, June 7.

Waves meets begin on Tuesday, June 28, and finish on Thursday, July 28, with the Meet of Champions. The Waves annual Swim for Food fundraiser will be on Friday, July 15.

To register, go to the town website and click on Recreation Registration. For more information, you can call the Recreation Department at (973) 857-4830.
