Holy Spirit parishioners marking Palm Sunday in 2017

We at Holy Spirit Verona wish our Islamic brothers and sisters a Blessed Ramadan, as well as to our Jewish sisters and brothers a Happy Festival for Passover. As Christians around the world mark our high holy days of Holy Week and Easter, we hope many will join us as we gather as a full community in-person for the first time in two years.

The pandemic has taught us much (like the importance of our online community) and we will continue to offer Zoom and/or Facebook for most of our Holy Week services. All worship services and events are open to the public.

Here is our schedule for our upcoming holy days:

Palm Sunday (April 10) – 8 a.m.* or 10 a.m.* – Eucharist and reading of The Passion; 10 am will include a grand palm procession beginning on Gould Street. This is also the Sunday we ask families to return their “40 Items 40 Days” Food Drive boxes so they can be blessed and used for our April Pantry Day.

Monday of Holy Week (April 11) – Women of the Cross – 7:30 p.m. – Hear the words that might have been said by women of the Bible as they stood at the foot of the cross of Jesus.

Maundy Thursday (April 14) – 7:30 p.m.* – Final Eucharist and stripping of the altar; rather than foot washing this year, we will wash the family meal (aka Coffee Hour) table as a symbol of a shared servanthood to one another. We will also once again “keep watch” and pray in our Chapel until the following morning.

Good Friday (April 15) – 8 a.m.* – Morning Prayer in our Chapel; 10 am – Children’s Workshop and Stations of the Cross; 12 pm* – Stations of the Cross and Prayers in our Chapel. In addition, from 9 am to 3 pm, our main sanctuary will be open for private prayer and quiet reflection.

Holy Saturday (April 16) – 1 to 3 p.m. – Flowering the Cross – parishioners and friends (that is you!) are invited to bring fresh greens and flowers to add to a wooden cross which is used for our Easter Morning worship service. We turn a symbol of pain and suffering into joy and resurrection. Drop by our parking lot to participate or observe.

Easter Sunday (April 17) – 9:50 a.m. our Sunday School students dig up the “Alleluia” Banner that has been buried beneath the earth since Ash Wednesday; 10 am* Festive Choral Eucharist with Coffee Hour following. Also, after the service the kids are invited to join on our front lawn for an Easter Egg Hunt.
