Amanda Riley Becker grew up in Verona, graduating from Forest Avenue Elementary School, H.B. Whitehorne Middle School and Verona High School, class of 1988. She has faced health challenges over the years, but her mother is asking for the support of the Verona community as both Becker and her husband battle serious conditions.
Becker, now a resident of Ramsey, was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer. Shortly after that, her husband Chuck Becker was was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and, during treatment for that condition, suffered a stroke.
A family friend has set up a GoFundMe for the Becker family to help offset their medical bills. You can learn more about it here.
The family sent this update on September 12, 2022:
“We cannot begin to thank everyone for your unbelievable kindness and pure, warmhearted
thoughtfulness. We feel so incredibly lucky and blessed to have family, friends, colleagues, communities and their groups behind us as we navigate through these very challenging times. We especially thank the Mannion’s, Maher’s, Riordan’s, McAnaney’s and Gubala’s, not only for your longtime friendship, but for putting the GoFundMe together, during a time when things are so out of control for us. Additionally, to the many friends who have helped us, and continue to help us in so many ways that we cannot even begin to list, we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. To the Ramsey community and to my hometown community of Verona, NJ, we are blessed to have so much support. We feel privileged to have so many people and community groups behind us, and we thank you.
To our family, we do not know where we would be without you. To my Mom Pam, Step-Mom Rose and
Chuck’s parents Trish & Charlie, thank you for your guidance and help, for always being there for us and for so much more. To my brothers, Jim, Chris, David, Matt, Danny and my sisters-in-law, and Chuck’s sister Christa and brother-in-law, and 11 nieces and nephews, thank you for everything. You have all kept us going, made us laugh and loved us lots. To a few special Aunts, Sally, Carolyn and Cathy and Uncles, Jimmy and Mickey, thank you for all you’ve done, for keeping us on an even keel and for making us smile. To our family and friends all over the country, we know that you are right here with us. We cannot thank everyone enough for your prayers as well, especially as we embark on the next part of our journey very soon. Chuck, Riley and I are very strong together. We are a unit, but at times we have to take turns holding each other up. It is during those times that we feel all of your collective arms around us, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Thank you!
Love,
Amanda, Chuck & Riley
