The girls basketball teams of Verona and Cedar Grove will square off on Tuesday, February 22, in a “Hoops for Hope” event to support Daria Gebbia, a Verona High School freshman now undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma. The JV teams will play at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity teams at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Verona High School.

To get into the game, supporters are asked to buy a #DariaStrong wristband for $5 from any athletic director, coach, or physical education teacher.

Gebbia, who has competed with the Verona competitive cheer program, was diagnosed with bone cancer at the end of January. The community has quickly rallied to support her and her family, with a GoFundMe, yard signs and more.

UPDATE: The game was played to a packed house, and raised $2,784.

  1. Curious where you can purchase a pink hoops for hope shirt. Went to the game tonight and didn’t see any of these specifically

  2. Those shirts were only for the participating teams. The shirts that were for sale had the #DariaStrong message on them.
