Carole J. (nee Cecere) Ferruggia, 79, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022 at home in Verona. Visiting will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona on Sunday, January 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Lakeside Avenue, Verona on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Face masks and social distancing will be required.

Born to Anthony and Dorothea (nee Bancone) Cecere, Mrs. Ferruggia grew up in Newark and moved to Verona in 1975.

She graduated from Monmouth College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and from Jersey City State College with a master’s equivalent. She was a teacher at the Abington Avenue School in Newark for 30 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Newark Teachers Union.

Mrs. Ferruggia enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Salvatore, who was the “love of her life” and playing the slots in Atlantic City.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Salvatore “Sal” T. Ferruggia; her loving children, Vincent Ferruggia (Amelia) and Dori Pintabone (Michael); and her cherished grandson, Salvatore Ferruggia. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jo Belott.

Donations to Alzheimer’s Association in her memory would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
