On Tuesday, November 23, at 6 p.m., Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ11) will hold a telephone town hall meeting. Rep. Sherrill will be joined by a panel of experts, including Amit Bose, deputy administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration.
The panel will help answer questions directly from residents on topics such as the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the continued efforts to combat the pandemic, and a number of other key issues. The town hall will be held virtually to allow for as many residents as possible to participate.
The bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which Congress passed on November 6 and President Joe Biden signed on November 15, includes $12 billion to improve New Jersey roads and bridges, as well as $8 billion for a new tunnel under the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City, the so-called Gateway Tunnel project. Sherrill has been a vocal advocate for the tunnel since she took office in 2019.
On November 19, the House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act, which Sherrill says will eliminate the deduction cap on state and local taxes for most families in the 11th congressional district. Sherrill had been working to repeal the SALT cap, which was imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump. The Build Back Better legislation has now gone to the U.S. Senate.
Residents can register to call-in to Rep. Sherrill’s telephone town hall at sherrill.house.gov/live. It will also stream live at 6 p.m. directly on Rep. Sherrill’s website. To submit a question ahead of the event, please click here.
