Verona high school girls soccer team (9-5) celebrated its senior night on Monday with a 7-1 victory over rival Cedar Grove (13-4).

Verona was first to score, but Cedar Grove answered with a goal. Verona stepped up the pace and found the net with two more goals before halftime. The maroon and white came out even stronger after halftime to hold Cedar Grove at one goal, and successfully secured four more goals for a comfortable win.

Grace Madigan, who earlier this month scored her 100th career point, finished with three goals. Brooke Rienecker and Victoria Niziolek each had two goals and one assist, and Emma Zalewski contributed two assists for Verona. Ella Mathewson and Aimee Griffin had one assist apiece.

Verona seniors—Griffin, Madigan, Mathewson, and Zalewski, and Emily Bosco, Meaghan Haughney (team manager), Emma Hogan, Alana Holton, Amelia Koellhofer, and Ella Moore—enjoyed a celebratory dinner post-game along with the varsity and JV teams, coaches, and parents.

The girls will finish up the regular season by hosting Glen Ridge on Thursday, October 28, at 4 p.m. on Sellitto Field, and begin the state championships against Roselle Park on Tuesday, November 2, at 4 p.m., also on Sellitto Field. Verona is the No. 8 seed in North 2, Group 1.
