Four middle-school boys in blue shirts destroyed several houses on the Grove Park fairy trail just before noon today. Verona police have been given a description of them and are obtaining video. The case is being handled by Juvenile Det. Joel Martin, who can be reached at 973-239-5000.

As we reported earlier last month, Cedar Grove resident Samantha Cunniff led the fairy house project to earn her Gold Award, the highest rank in Girl Scouts. Michael Auteri, a member of the Verona Environmental Commission (VEC), who had hiked the fairy trail in South Mountain Reservation with his daughter, had thought that a fairy trail could be a good community service project for Scouts. On July 29, some fairy houses were found to have been destroyed.

  1. How sad. My five year old son and I were just admiring the fairy houses the other day. We have built our own fairy house and hope to place it in the park if that’s allowed to compensate for the destruction – and to show off his design, of course!
