To the Editor:

As we get ready to go to the polls and choose who will have the honor and responsibility of serving on the Town Council, I urge all of my fellow citizens to re-elect Jack McEvoy to another term. His performance, commitment, and dedication to our community has been unmatched over the last four years.

Jack has deep roots in Verona as a lifelong resident and active participant in community affairs. He has faithfully attended Town Council, Board of Adjustment, and Planning Board meetings long before he ran for office and effectively advocated for better management of development, land use, and environmental issues in the Town. Jack has worked tirelessly to improve the town’s practices around stormwater management, neighborhood traffic, shade tree preservation, and revitalization of our downtown district bringing real results on all of these issues.

He was an active participant in rebuilding the Verona Chamber of Commerce to help bring our businesses together and resolve any issues affecting them. As a town we have accomplished much to simplify the process of opening and operating a business in Verona, and Jack’s work has contributed greatly to that goal.

As a licensed home inspector and former builder, Jack has been able to make reasonable decisions that help the town maintain its aging infrastructure and buildings. He understands how to make these assets last, and what investments will be required for their upkeep.

Jack is also fiscally responsible. He actively reviews the town’s operating and capital expenditures and ensures that we make sound choices that provide excellent public services at a reasonable cost. Under his leadership we’ve managed overtime costs and worked to develop shared services and have been able to make smart long-term investments in facilities and services.

He has served us well as Mayor for the last two years and has attended virtually every community event and numerous business openings. Most importantly, he has contributed countless hours of time to the job. He is always available to work with the Township staff, and takes the time to carefully review ordinances and other business to lead an effective discussion at meetings. I have greatly appreciated his leadership during his term and it is clear that we would all benefit from his re-election.

I strongly encourage you to cast your vote for Jack McEvoy to serve another term on the Town Council.
