These don’t look like your typical high school musical photos, but rarely have the Verona High School Spotlight Players been typical.
Last year’s musical, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” ran the weekend before the Verona school system went remote. The group still managed to put together a one-act festival (which was all done remotely) and performed the radio play “The War of the Worlds” this past fall.
Next week, the group will perform an original musical revue, “Broadway Through the Ages,” outdoors at the Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center in West Orange. This dedicated group of performers have been rehearsing outside and fully masked inside, following strict COVID safety guidelines.
You can see the fruits of their labor Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening (May 6 to 8). Tickets are only available online at https://spotlight-players.ticketleap.com/ages/. Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy songs from shows such as “South Pacific,” “Guys And Dolls,” “A Chorus Line” and “Dear Evan Hanson.”
