My wife and I come from different backgrounds. Growing up, her family owned their home while mine rented. As a couple, we rented until our early 30s to build our careers and save up to buy a home here in Verona. As homeowners, we recognize we are more than adequately represented on Town Council.
All current Town Council members are homeowners, and some are landlords. Renters, however, have no representation. From personal experience, we know that neither status has an impact on residents putting down roots in a community, volunteering on local boards, serving as class parents, or starting community forums for conversation.
Renters deserve a council member who will understand and consider their needs and concerns – not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because they have personally lived the experience. Renters’ representation is also important to maintain a power balance between landlords and renters.
We are voting for Jason Hyndman on May 11. He is the right person to represent all of us on the Town Council. We know he will always listen to and understand our voices, not just those who position themselves as more dedicated to Verona because of the status of their homeownership.
