The Verona Recreation Department will open registration for its summer playground program on Monday, April 26, at 10 a.m. and the new registration process could include a lottery if demand is heavy.

There will be four playground programs this summer, two at the Verona Community Center and two at other sites. The two programs at the VCC will be the equivalent of Verona Rec’s Tot-Lot and Primary Park programs of the past. They are for children turning four years old on or before October 1, through those entering second grade. The third program, which will be held at Verona High School, will be for children entering third and fourth grades in September, and the fourth program, to be held at the Verona Pool, will be for children entering fifth and sixth grade in the fall.

There will be a limit of 100 participants per site. If there are more than 100 prospective participants for a site, the Recreation Department will hold a lottery. Once all the spots are allocated, participants will be sent instructions on how to pay for the program.

Registration closes on Monday May 3 at 4 p.m. The cost for all programs will be $150 per participant.

The summer playground program will run from Tuesday, July 6 through Friday, July 30, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon. Masks are to be worn at all times by both staff and campers, but the Rec Department said there will likely be a mask-break area. All playground programs will be weather dependent and could be cancelled on days of severe weather.

The Recreation Department will also operate a summer basketball camp on the courts at the Verona pool. It is open to Verona children entering second through eighth grades this fall and will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day.

You can register for all programs here. For more information, see the Rec Department’s website.
