Verona has recorded its 801st case of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March 2020, according to data released by Essex County today.

The rate of increase in positive COVID cases is slowing in Verona and other Essex County towns. Verona has had a 4.6% increase so far in March, the 10th highest rate in the county. That is down from 18.4% in February, when it was the fifth-highest rate in the county, and 35% in January, when we were also fifth. In December, Verona’s rate of increase was 56%, the fourth highest in the county.

Verona’s death toll from COVID remains unchanged at 16, but several Essex County towns are continuing to record new deaths, especially those with poorer populations, like Newark, which has added 13 deaths this month, bringing its total to 886.

As of yesterday, Essex County has given 88,557 first doses and 48,409 second doses of the Moderna vaccine at its five vaccination centers, as well as 747 doses of the J&J vaccine from its mobile site.
