James R. Murphy Sr., 82, from Caldwell, formally of Verona, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Hugh M. Moriarity Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, Montclair, NJ 07042. Visitation is Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montclair at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery immediately following the mass.

Jim was a well-known salesman for Nabisco, Johnson & Johnson, and Avery Dennison. He was a Little League coach and served as president for Verona Baseball. He was an avid golfer and loved his time at the Beach House with his kids and grandkids. He also loved watching all the grandkids play their sports, perform in dance recitals and their graduations, sacraments, and other activities. He was also loved for funny jokes and teasing of all family and friends. He’ll always be known for his love of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Born in Newark  to John and Margaret Murphy, Jim was a well-known figure in the community and beloved by his clients and fellow sales team. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Connell) for 32 years; father of Colleen M. Smith (Peter), Dennis (Christine) Murphy and James Murphy Jr. (Rebecca); and grandfather to Ryan, Caitlin, Erin, Daniel, Nathan, Jack, Sean, Abigail, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Lily, Liam, and James.
