Verona Fights Hunger Week is a town-wide supersized food drive that brings together local businesses, civic groups, charities, religious organizations and schools in the fight against hunger in our community. Now more than ever as a result of the economic impact of COVID-19, there is an increased need at the local food pantries serving our community. Please join the Junior Woman’s Club in the fight against suburban hunger.
This year marks the seventh anniversary of the event, in which the town participates in raising donations of food and money that benefit the food pantry at Church of the Holy Spirit and the Human Needs Food Pantry. Since 2013, the Juniors have collected over 8,000 bags of food and nearly $17,000 in monetary donations for local food pantries. The success of Verona Fights Hunger Week stems from the generosity of Verona neighbors and local businesses.
There are many ways to help! Please consider making a contactless donation of needed items via our Amazon Wish list at https://bit.ly/VeronaHunger, make a monetary donation at bit.ly/VFHWDonate, or fill up a bag of food and bring it to a collection bin in town. A collection bin will be located inside the Verona Library October 11 to 16, and bins will be located outside the Community Center and Town Hall on Friday, October 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Outdoor collection bins will also be available at all Verona public schools for registered students on Friday, October 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kings Supermarket, a generous sponsor of the program, will host shop and drops at their Verona location beginning Sunday, October 11, and ending Friday, October 16. Walgreens will also host a shop and drop on Sunday, October 11, Tuesday, October 13, and Friday, October 16.
The week concludes on Saturday, October 17 at 9 a.m. at Town Hall when volunteers fill an entire moving truck donated by Casella & Sons with the bags of food collected during the week. Casella & Sons has been a long-standing partner and supporter of Verona Fights Hunger Week, donating a large truck each year to transport the hundreds of bags of food.
