Verona is moving ahead with building a community garden behind H.B. Whitehorne Middle School and even though we can’t start planting until next spring, garden organizers are already beginning to collect the supplies they will need. Steve Neale, the town’s director of administration and economic development, has put out a call for gardening equipment that residents are no longer using or donations of new tools. Sustainable Verona will be collecting items through November 1 and can even pick up your donations from your house.
If you’ve got something to donate, please use this form to give Neale the heads up.
Verona has been trying to get a community garden off the ground and in the ground for years. This spring, Verona won a $10,000 grant from the PSE&G Foundation through Sustainable Jersey that will be used to put up deer-proof fencing around the garden.
