Teresa Boyd, one of the co-founders of the Verona-based interior design firm Olive Hill Design Company, was the big winner of Verona Arts’ second annual Chalk Fest. Her drawing, “Mucha Girl,” a tribute to the Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha, won first place in Chalk Fest 2020. Boyd lives on the Forest side of Verona, and MyVeronaNJ profiled her design partnership with Helena Finkelstein in 2016.
Second place this year went to “Raven,” submitted by Aleena Gonzalez, while third place was a tie between “Gem Sidewalk,” submitted by Maya Mahmood and Hannah Mir, and “Bricks,” submitted by April Neale. Verona Arts also awarded an Honorable Mention to “Jellyfish,” submitted by @beforework. Unlike 2019, when Chalk Fest was held solely in the center of town in the loop in front of Town Hall, participants in this year’s chalk art festival worked from their home driveways and sidewalks because of the pandemic.
“Thanks to everyone who came out to support Verona Arts Chalk Fest 2020!” the arts group wrote on its Facebook page. “We had an amazing turnout this year & some truly fun, creative, and incredible art submissions to consider.”
Through the Facebook page you can also see the drawings done on Saturday by last year’s winner, Yuliya Parshina-Kottas, and Rick Shick, who were both featured artists this year.
