For the past four years, Holy Spirit Verona has hosted a large Celebration of Pets at Verona’s Civic Center on the first Sunday in October. The church cannot hold the event this year because of the pandemic, but it has come up with an alternative.

This year Father Jerry Racioppi will be offering animal blessings to go and drive-through pet blessings on Sunday, October 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Holy Spirit’s parking lot at 36 Gould Street. “We still want to acknowledge the importance of pets in our lives and October 4 is the actual Feast of St. Francis,” says Father Jerry. “We encourage people to stop by for a physically distant blessing of their beloved animal.” Masks will be required. Also on hand in the parking lot will be two animal rescue and adoption groups – Joyrides Rescue with dogs and Purrfect Pals with cats and kittens available for adoption.

Also, Bingo is back at Holy Spirit – virtual Bingo, that is. The church has not had one of its second Friday Bingo fundraisers since February, but Holy Spirit will now use Zoom to host virtual Bingo on Friday, October 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. (and every second Friday of the month). Just send an email to [email protected] to sign up. The entry fee is $20 for one Bingo card that will be used for all six games. Additional cards may be purchased for $5. After paying via e-payment or Venmo, or sending or dropping off a check to Holy Spirit, you will receive the Zoom link and your virtual Bingo card. The deadline for registering is Wednesday, October 7. Prizes will be gift cards and children are welcome to play too.
