The Verona school district reopened the running track and outdoor basketball courts at Henry B. Whitehorne School this morning, Saturday, September 19. Both the track and courts are available for use from sunrise to sunset.

The track was completely renovated with funds from the November 2019 referendum and is intended for walking and running only. Bike-riding is specifically prohibited on the sign near the track and anything with wheels, including skateboards, bicycles, scooters, rollerblades, roller skates and strollers are prohibited because they could damage the track. In its announcement, the school district reminded the community that track and court users must follow social distancing and mask rules.

The track, which was built in 2001 in partnership with Montclair Kimberly Academy, was closed in December 2012 because part of its surface had separated from the underlying material. The Board of Education was able to fund patching and limited repairs, but it was not until the referendum that it had the funding to do a full replacement.
