Mrs. Marie L. Emma (nee La Porta), 97, passed away peacefully among those who loved her on August 27, 2020 in Madison, N.J.

A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 32 Lakeside Ave., Verona, on Monday, August 31 at 10 a.m. Those attending must wear a mask and observe proper social distancing. Interment will be private.

Born and raised in Newark, Mrs. Emma moved to Verona in the 1970s. In 2019 she moved to East Hanover and then later to Madison.

Throughout her lifetime she worked as a secretary for Prudential (during World War II), a real estate agent (during the 1960s), and a secretary for the Valisburg High School (30 years). But her most prized responsibility was that of being a loving wife and mother to her five children, caring for them all and always present whenever they needed her.

Mrs. Emma was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jasper A. Emma and grandson, Jason Emma.

She is survived by her loving children, Robert Emma (Hilarie), Richard Emma (Katherine), David Emma (Sarah), Michael Emma and Denise Korn (Ron) and cherished grandchildren, David, Kristin and Kevin Waters, Max and Ruth Emma, Christopher, Jeffrey and Christina Emma, Jacqueline and Pat Bray and Greg and great-grandchildren, Addison, Hailey, Elliott and Ashby. She is also survived by her sister, Ida Emma (Paul).

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
