Lisa Freschi will be running unopposed for a third term on the Verona Board of Education (BOE) this November. Potential candidates needed to file with the Essex County Clerk by 4 p.m. today and none did except Freschi. Each BOE term is for three years and only one of the five seats was up for a vote this year.
Freschi won her first term on the BOE in 2014, beating a field of five candidates. She narrowly won re-election in 2017 over Connor McCann, then a recent graduate of Verona High School. She has been president of the BOE since January 2019.
“The Board has made some significant strides in improving Verona’s schools in the last year, but there was more to be done, even before the pandemic,” Freschi said via text message. “I look forward to getting the support of voters in November for what was accomplished and to working with my fellow Board members on what remains to be done.”
