In April, Sarah Knoetig, then a ninth grader at Verona High School, launched a fundraiser for Verona’s first responders for their work during the pandemic. Yesterday, they honored her on the steps of Town Hall.

For a graphic design class assignment, Knoetig re-imagined the high school’s mascot for COVID-19, adding a face mask on both the Hillbilly and his dog, protective gloves, and a bottle of hand sanitizer for good measure. Two Guys Tees, a Verona-based screen-printing business, put the design on t-shirts, hoodies and car magnets and earmarked all  of the proceeds for the Verona Police Department, Verona Fire Department and the Verona Rescue Squad.

The Verona Rescue Squad gave Knoetig and her family a shout-out on its Instagram page, adding that, “this very generous donation will go to assist our organization in fulfilling our mission. We would also like to thank the residents of Verona for their continued support to our organization during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

This was Sarah Noetig’s class assignment.
