Essex County will set up a COVID-19 test site in South Orange next week, while operating its main site in Weequahic Park.

The South Orange site will operate on Thursday, July 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC).

Testing is by appointment only through www.EssexCOVID.org or call 973-324-9950. Essex County residents age 13 and older with or without symptoms are encouraged to get tested.

The test being given is a molecular diagnostic test, which involves spitting into a test tube. It tests for an active viral infection at the time of testing and is considered the most accurate. It takes less than 15 minutes to do the test and you remain in your car the whole time. Anyone taking the COVID-19 saliva test should not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum 30 minutes prior to arrival.

The Weequahic Park test site operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
