Alex Cook has taken his art in a new direction.
For nine weeks, Cook, a part-time resident of Verona, had been painting and re-painting a ping-pong table top on the front lawn of his fiancé‘s home at 170 Claremont Avenue with the words “You Are Loved” in big block letters. Cook, who has been quarantining in Verona during the outbreak of COVID-19, has been painting murals with similar messages all over the United States since 2013.
Cook says the new art (above) was inspired by late night walks with his fiancé around the neighborhood. The last of the nine images he painted for the “You Are Loved” series has been moved to one side of the yard, which is just west of the Elmwood Road intersection, and you can see all of the previous versions on his Instagram page.
“I retired the board after last week’s painting,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “I liked it too much and didn’t want to paint over it, plus it was time to move on to some new images.”
Cook also created this time-lapse video of his work on the “You Are Loved” series.
