Boosters Hold Virtual Event To Honor Senior Athletes

Every year, the Verona Sports Boosters hold an awards banquet to honor Verona High School’s senior athletes for their athletic accomplishments. Usually, it’s held in one of the local banquet halls. This year, because of COVID-19, It was held on Instagram.

Maggie Lonsinger and Jake McConnachie were named the female and male athletes of the year. Lonsinger played soccer and lacrosse for VHS, and will be playing lacrosse in the fall for the University of Connecticut, a Division I school. McConnachie was on the football, basketball and track teams over his VHS career. He has committed to play football at another Division I school, the University of Pittsburgh,

Alyssa Deo and Derek Jocelyn were recognized with the Maroon & White Award, which is presented every year to the senior athletes who exemplify perseverance, enthusiasm, toughness and dedication to their sport. Deo has played tennis for VHS, while Jocelyn was on the basketball team.

The Boosters’ video has highlights of these athletes and an unusual, title-winning year for Verona sports.
