The Verona Democratic Team is encouraging Verona High School seniors who will be studying political science, public policy or government affairs to apply for its two $500 scholarships. Details can be found on Naviance, and the deadline is May 15th.

The Verona Democratic Team has also pledged $500 in donations to assist food insecure members of the community through gift certificates to local restaurants, grocery store gift cards and direct donations to the Verona Children’s Fund, Church of the Holy Spirit food pantry and Verona Rescue Squad.

Laura Fortgang, who leads the Verona Democratic Team, also announced that the district leaders for 2020 will be carried over to 2021 because the district leader’s election was dropped from this year’s primary ballot due to COVID-19. The district leaders represent the 11 voting districts in Verona and serve as the local contact for voter registration, election update and Democratic campaign activity. There are to be two district leaders per district:

District One (Clairidge House, and the area east of Pompton Avenue): Willola Ashley
District Two (Afterglow and Brookdale School): Laura Fortgang and Mark Fortgang
District Three (Newman Ave./Laning): Allan Zaks (VP) and Judy Zaks
District Four (H.B. Whitehorne Middle School): Branka Kurta and Robin Wallace
District Five (Forest Ave.): Toral Patel (Secretary) and Ted Giblin
District Six (Forest Ave. School) Eileen Kleinberg and Stephen Pope
District Seven (F.N Brown): Lonna Murphy and Michael Auteri
District Eight (Brookdale Ave. Elementary): Teena Schwartz and Wendi Caplan-Carroll
District Nine (Verona High School): Carrie Hayter and Jonathon Hayter
District Ten (Martin Road/Laning): Paula Sandoval and Aremenio Sandoval
District Eleven (Depot St./VHS): John Callari and Diane Callari

If you need to reach your District Leader you can email [email protected] with name of your district in the subject line. More information can also be found at the Verona Democrat team website or on its Facebook page.
