Some Verona residents have come up with an idea that they are calling Verona Phone Chain. They will make a daily 5- to 10-minute check-in call to fellow residents who are living alone, shut in, have limited resources, handicapped or feeling isolated from the community. Sue Waldman, a local psychotherapist and mindfulness teacher who has long provided telehealth counseling in her business, is training volunteers in effective phone support.
If you are shut in or know someone who needs a daily support call, please email Waldman with the subject line ‘Add me to the Verona Phone Chain’ at [email protected] or call her office at (973) 857-HELP (4357).
Waldman also wants to remind residents that if they are in need of assistance for groceries, fresh meals and other necessities, they can call the Verona Community Center at (973) 857-4800 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekends and after business hours, residents can call Steve Neale at (973) 239-4921.
UPDATE: Waldman has added a Prayer Phone call for Verona residents on Wednesday, April 22 at 4:44 p.m. Anyone interested should email her at [email protected] to get the call-in information.
