Dear Verona Residents,

Today, the Montclair Health Department informed the Verona Police Department of an additional resident that has tested positive for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). This brings our total confirmed cases in Verona to three (3). Please be advised that there are federal and state regulations that prohibit the disclosure of the identity of the patients confirmed to have COVID-19.

The current location of these patients and the status of their treatment is currently being researched. The Health Department is currently working to conduct a thorough investigation to identify other individuals with whom the patients may have come in contact. Health officials will then contact them in order to provide the necessary support and guidance, if necessary.

While the nature of the virus is such that we were forced to anticipate additional cases, it does not make this update easier to share or a matter of routine. We understand that each case presents challenges for the affected residents, their families, healthcare providers, and our emergency services. However, we are confident that our community will respond to these challenges with our customary uncommon strength.

All should be continuing to follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the New Jersey Department of Health. Please continue to support one another during this challenging time for our local, state, and national communities.

We ask all residents to continue to make deliberate efforts to reduce the potential for virus transmission and flatten the curve. Please STAY HOME unless travel is necessary such as visiting the grocery stores or pharmacies.

Thank you for continued dedication to minimizing the effects of the novel Coronavirus in Verona.

Best regards,

MATTHEW CAVALLO

Township Manager
