Palmer Advances To Semis In Wrestling’s Regions Tournament

Today is day three of wrestling’s Regions tournament and Verona High School’s wrestling team is still going strong.

Day two saw Dean Palmer win by major decision (10-1) over Malachi Shephard of West Morris. Palmer advances to the semifinals and will face Jacob Baeza of Kearny.

In the quarterfinals, Derek Bernardino, Sam Zamloot and John Pavia all fell to their opponents. Bernardino was pinned by Gregory Slivka of Warren Hills, Zamloot was pinned by Simon Ruiz of Delbarton, and Pavia was pinned by Kieran Calvetti of Delbarton. But today, they will all wrestle back for a chance to continue on to States.

Wrestling action begins at 10 a.m. at West Orange High School.
