As we move closer to Election Day, I encourage voters in the 26th district to vote for Laura Fortgang–the candidate who cares about getting away from “politics as usual” and moving us forward. I can say with confidence that Laura is a smart, successful business woman, active in her community, and devoted wife and mom of three who will seek thoughtful, innovative solutions to NJ’s long-standing issues. Unlike many politicians in NJ, who play a political game without caring about what their constituents really want or need, Laura decided to run for office to finally give a voice to everyone in the district.
As a public school educator for more than 30 years, I can tell you no one supports our public schools with more passion than Laura! While her 3 children were attending public school, she served in multiple ways, often in leadership roles, using her business expertise to raise funds that offset the damaging effects of school budget constraints. She has tremendous respect for teachers and the work they do, and will look for ways to support schools, protect teacher pensions, and expand programs without overburdening the taxpayer. Like me, and every other teacher I know, Laura is also concerned about the effects on our kids of over-testing and the lack of affordability of higher education. I am also excited about her plans to increase vo-tech offerings to enable students to explore advanced technical training. For too long, lawmakers in Trenton have used education as a political football instead of making a commitment to support schools and the important work they do.
Laura also understands the struggles of middle-class residents, especially retirees and young families, who want to maintain their homes in the beautiful communities we all love. She has had to grapple personally with the healthcare industry due to medical issues in her own family and especially understands the importance of protecting pre-existing conditions and reigning in pharmaceutical costs. Unlike her opponent, who has a long record of voting against issues that support women and families, Laura will also fight to provide and maintain healthcare, pay equity, and equal opportunity. Webber opposes a women’s right to choose and voted repeatedly against programs and laws that would protect women and families.
It’s time to oust the career politician and bring in someone who will move us forward! Whether it’s the environment, NJ’s infrastructure, healthcare, or education, Laura has the vision, smarts, and energy to move the state into a better future away from “politics as usual.” Check out Laura’s website at fortgangforassembly.com and remember to vote on Election Day!
Sincerely,
Helen A. Kuryllo
