Laura Fortgang, the Democratic challenger for state Assembly in the 26th District, has earned the endorsement of Clean Water Action, an organization that works to win strong health and environmental protections.
Fortgang, a Verona resident, is just one of four challengers in two legislative districts—all Democratic women–that Clean Water Action is endorsing in this year’s legislative race. Only eight incumbents earned the organization’s endorsement.
“These candidates have fresh ideas, will bring a new energy to Trenton, and are committed to protecting our environment, communities, and public health,” CWA said in announcing the endorsements.
“Clean Water Action is taking a strong stand for our health and our environment by holding candidates and legislators to very rigorous standards, and I am extremely honored to be among the select few to have earned their support,” Fortgang said. “Clean air and water are issues of public health and health care, as well as an economic issue for our state,” Fortgang said.
Clean Water Action joins the Sierra Club of New Jersey and the League of Conservation Voters of New Jersey in supporting Fortgang’s candidacy.
“We get more disturbing news every day about the consequences of climate change in New Jersey,” Fortgang said. “Rebuilding after extreme weather, cleaning up after flooding, remediating polluted storm water, closing down beaches and lakes—these consequences cost New Jersey billions of dollars. Our environmental crisis is an economic crisis for our taxpayers. We need leaders in Trenton who understand the economics of our environmental problems and who have the courage to pursue the bold solutions this crisis demands,” Fortgang said.
