Caregivers’ Group To Meet On Hospice, Palliative Care

The September meeting of the United Way of Northern New Jersey‘s Caregivers Coalition will be on will be on Tuesday, September 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Verona Community Center and it will focus on hospice and palliative care. The presentation, “Decision Making for Families Facing Life-Limiting Illnesses,” will be by Dr. Marianne Holler, DO FAAHPM, Chief Medical Officer, VNA Health Group for Hospice, Palliative Medicine and the Advanced Care Institute.

The United Way Caregivers Coalition provides free seminars to help unpaid caregivers get information and the support they need in their caregiving role. The Coalition brings together caregivers, medical professionals, social service agencies, businesses, and other community groups to support unpaid family caregivers in suburban Essex County.

The Caregivers Coalition will also have three Munch & Learn dinner presentations during the final months of 2019. On Tuesday, September 17, at 6 p.m. at Crane’s Mill in West Caldwell, there will be a talk on “Reverse Mortgages and Other Creative Financial Strategies to Pay for Care” with Laurie Hauptman, Eldercare & Special Needs Attorney, Hauptman & Hauptman, P.C. and John Monroe, Senior Loan Officer, Bond Street Mortgage, LLC.

On Tuesday, October 29, at 6 p.m. at Christ Church in Short Hills, the talk will be “Medicare Options” with Siobhan Higgins, Essex County SHIP Coordinator, Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ.

And finally, Tuesday, November 19, at 6 p.m. at Daughters of Israel in West Orange, the talk will be “Laughter Yoga” with Joan Castellano, certified Laughter Yoga Teacher.
