Verona fell to Madison in the North 2 Group 2 final on Friday, ending what had been an historic season for Verona baseball: The Hillbillies went into sectionals as the #2 seed, and made it all the way to the finals for the first time since 1979.
Madison starting pitcher Michael Maybaum threw a two-hit shutout, going the full seven innings in front of a packed crowd at Paul “Doc” Goeltz Field. Army-commit Will Hart broke the scoreless tie for Madison in the top of the fifth inning, taking Pierce Coppola deep to left field. Madison added two more runs in the inning, as Walter Brownlee doubled and Vincent Costa and Michael May had RBI singles.
