Learn Mental Health First Aid

You may know CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver; you can call 911. But can you administer first aid in a mental health crisis? Learn how on Saturday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) New Jersey Chapter is providing a Mental Health First Aid workshop through funds raised by the Verona Park/West Essex Out of Darkness Walk. Mental Health First Aid teaches:

  • Risk factors & warning signs of mental health concerns.
  • Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and substance use.
  • A 5-step action plan to help someone developing a mental health concern or in crisis.
  • Available evidence-based professional, peer, and self-help resources.

A light breakfast (at 8 a.m.) and lunch will be provided by The Fruited Plain Caterers of Parsippany. To register contact Rosemary Gabbe at (973) 865-8054 or email [email protected]. Class size is limited to 30 – register early! This workshop is co-sponsored by Church of the Holy Spirit Verona.
