To the Editor:

In the coming weeks we have the opportunity to elect into the Town Council a remarkable leader and hardworking team player: His name is John Quattrocchi.

Over-development is a big issue for Verona right now. I am pretty sure that no one on the current town council has a broader understanding — as a resident, as a mediator, as a liaison with town management and as a leader in the community – than John Quattrocchi. He not only fully understands the consequences that come from agreeing to a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) for the schools, our taxes and the impact on the town’s finances, but he is also acutely aware of the town’s unique position and options as it seeks to fulfill its affordable housing obligations.

Recently, I met John in a neighborhood meeting as we discussed a massive development project that aims to take place on 1 Sunset Avenue. This project, as initially presented, encompasses a high-density, 300 unit, residential building and enough parking for over 570 cars. From day one of his involvement as a resident, John has sought to help other residents and the Township reach an open dialogue, to consider alternatives that are a win for everyone, not only for this area but also for the wider Verona community that will also be affected by the massive traffic and financial impact that this development will produce.

Now more than ever, Verona needs a strategic thinker and hard worker like John to get things done. While our Township figures out how to handle the over-development issue, we are losing our battle with the developers. However, in the short time that John has been a part of this initiative, the Town Council has been forced to increase transparency with residents and explore alternatives that are a better solution for everyone.

Other candidates make promises about how they can help Verona when they are elected, John is already doing it. Verona needs proven leader like Quattrocchi, there is no time to waste.
