Rev. Lynn Rubier-Capron, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Verona, has let us know that there will be a community gathering at the Verona Islamic Center on Saturday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. to stand with that congregation in the wake of the murder of 49 Muslims at two mosques in New Zealand on Friday. Another 48 people, including children, were injured in the attacks. An Australian man who had posted a manifesto to a white nationalist website has been charged with murder.
“We ask that everyone wear symbols of their faith,” Rev. Rubier-Capron said, “so that we can collectively say, no matter my religion, I am here to see the beauty that is here today in each other.”
The Verona Islamic Center is located at 56 Grove Avenue, at the corner of Personette Avenue.
