Verona High School’s football season is over, but there will still be some Hillbillies on gridirons this weekend.
Bill Ferrari (VHS’ 15) is now a tight end for the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays, and they will travel to face the defending champion, Ohio’s University of Mount Union, on Saturday. The game is Hopkins’ first trip to the semifinals in program history and can be watched through the ESPN3 website. Hopkins advanced to the semis by defeating RPI 37-14 last weekend. Mount Union got there by beating Muhlenberg College, where Mark Riggio (VHS’ 16) has been playing.
Frank Ferrari, Bill’s twin brother, has a much longer trip to his quarterfinal game. He is the quarterback for Colgate University, and they will be at North Dakota State’s Fargodome for a noon Eastern kickoff on Saturday, which will be broadcast on ESPN, Colgate advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating JMU 23-20 with a field goal at the buzzer last Saturday. I
So tune in and cheer.
UPDATE: Both teams lost to the respective defending national champions in their division. Colgate fell 0-35, and Hopkins lost 20-28.
