The Verona High School volleyball team is headed to the third round of the Group 1 playoffs after defeating Highland Park 2-0 on Thursday. Verona took the first set 25-14 and then built on that momentum to deliver a 25-10 victory in the second.

Highland Park, which is the #17 seed in the playoffs to Verona’s #1, had advanced to yesterday’s match after defeating the #16 seed, Roselle.

Hunter Coppola led Verona in kills with eight, followed by Nicolette Marino and Brooke Cooney. Kelly Waterman slammed out 21 service points and was credited with 20 assists.

Verona, which blew past Emerson Boro in the opening round, will face ninth-seeded Cresskill in the quarterfinals on Saturday. That game will be played at the VHS gym at 3 p.m.
