Flood GarbageSaturday’s torrential rains meant that many Verona residents spent Sunday filling garbage bags with flood-damaged items and dragging them to the curb. As a result, Verona Township announced last evening that there will be extra bulk pickups this week to haul away everything that was ruined.

The additional pickups for the south side of Verona will be Tuesday and Thursday, and the additional north side pickups will be Wednesday and Friday. But you can put the flood trash out at the curb now, if you haven’t already done so.

And if heavy rain hasn’t already done us enough damage, the National Weather Service has issued a new flash flood warning for our area. The warning went into effect at 6 a.m. Monday and runs through midnight tonight, with the most likely time for trouble being this afternoon and evening. In addition to Essex County, the warning also covers Bergen, Passaic, Hudson and Union counties.
