Led by three riders from Verona, the Essex Offroad Mountain Bike Team took first place in the Lewis Morris Mania race on Sunday.
Verona High School sophomore Nina Machnowski earned 575 points for the team for her racing, while VHS senior Cole Smith added 539 points. VHS freshman Veronica Valera added 472 points. The Essex Offroad team earned a total of 2098 points, putting them well ahead of the Morristown Revolutions and Palisades Cyclones.
The Essex Offroad Mountain Bike Team is comprised of 41 students from all over Essex County, including Bloomfield, the Caldwells, Cedar Grove, Glen Ridge, Maplewood, Montclair, South Orange and Verona. The Lewis Morris Park race loop is 2.75 miles of double track and single track with 300 feet of climbing.
