Verona High School baseball gave its seniors a fitting sendoff on Saturday with a 4-3 win over Newark East Side. This year’s seniors are Ian Metzger, Mike Daggett, Dean Ramsthaler, Steven Priscoe and Tino Quagliata.
Metzger was on the mound for the full game at Doc Goeltz Field and delivered eight strikeouts and two walks. He was also a star at the plate: After East Side put a two-run lead on the scoreboard, Metzger hit an opposite field double that sent Will Gaccione home. Ramsthaler drove in two runs and Priscoe was also credited with a hit.
The win puts Verona’s record at 6-7. The team hosts West Orange on Monday.
